Wishful World

HONOUR AND PATRIOTISM VS. NFL PLAYERS PROTEST

A country’s FLAG and NATIONAL ANTHEM are what millions of soldiers have lost their lives defending. To use them as shields to protest, whatever the case may be is humiliating, embarrassing and ignorant.
It disrespects all those soldiers who fought for their flag and national anthem having laid their lifeless bodies on the battlefields.

CANADIAN OIL & GAS PIPELINES VS. PRISTINE BACKYARDS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

The Minister of Energy confirmed a few days ago (Oct 3/17) that the Energy East and Eastern Mainland Pipelines have hit the wall. They have been rejected and are not going through. Kudos for Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre who stood strong in his efforts to stop these two projects and hopefully this time, PM Trudeau stands firm by his comment to CBC News when he said: “my job is to look out for Canada’s best interests and not act as a “cheerleader” for various pipeline projects as the previous Conservative government did”.

ARE BIODIVERSITY AND MULTICULTURALISM THE FRAMEWORK FOR FUTURE SOCIETIES?

Absolutely yes, and make no mistake!
It is indeed the best thing that can happen to any current and future society, if and only if, people stop simply tolerating each other and start accepting each other with a caring and honest attitude and spirit. We need to accept and integrate into our society with a common goal and identity. That is the only way we will grow healthy and strong, regardless of our DNA. Our differences will make us robust and stable as a society.

ARE THE HIJAB OR BURKA AN INVITATION FOR SEGREGATION AND REVERSE RACISM IN THE WORKPLACE?

Again, in Canada, it appears that the “BIRDS are SHOOTING the HUNTERS”, instead of the other way around.
Is Canada going to regret the government’s overly tolerant accommodation policies regarding religious and traditional practices that are being introduced to Canadian society? How will these influences affect the Western and North American cultural and social values? An increasing number of immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees seem not to care about mutual acceptance and reciprocity that goes both ways even though we accept them into our country with open arms and the best of intentions. Isn’t this very sad and worrisome?

ARE KINDNESS & LOVE VERSUS CYNICISM & SARCASM MISINTERPRETED & MISLEADING IN CANADA?

The news said, “Sikh Politician responds racist attack with “love & courage”. Why differentiate between a Canadian MP versus Sikh Politician? That alone acknowledges the difference in people’s background within our nation and government. This invites racism. The term “Sikh politician” might sound good to the ears of many, but is literally discriminatory and wrong. It is often heard in the same way by saying “woman or female doctor”. What difference does it make? We should evaluate people on their actions, not if they are of this race or that gender. Yes, Canadian MP Jagmeet Singh was smooth and graceful to the eyes of many, but also false and hypocritical to the eyes of other Canadians who perceive politicians through a more realistic and/or negative light. Why? Because it is obvious Mr. Singh does not “welcome her” and much less “loves her”. It is a “political move” and way out, the reason why the Populist movement in many countries has surged and is getting stronger. That was the main reason President Donald Trump was elected. Why not just escort and remove the intransigent and ignorant woman from the premises, and avoid lying to her face and to the eyes of many

ACKNOWLEDGE OUR HEROES TO CREATE IDENTITY

Canada, being a young country of 150 years, still lacks a clear identity to many. A way to achieve that identity is also by acknowledging our own war heroes such as James Campbell Clouston. Mr. Clouston is barely known by only a few Canadians. He grew up in Montreal and graduated from McGill University. During WWII, he was an officer in the British Navy. During the Dunkirk evacuation, he managed to guide over 200,000 Allied soldiers trapped by the German troops, to safer ground. People like officer Clouston should be on our currency, stamps and in school halls, instead of the royal family. Having the royals represented on stamps, etc. sends mixed signals of a “Canadian” identity to many. Hey, this is just a personal and humble thought, but what do you think? Cheers!

NATURE VS. OIL EXTRACTION AND TRANSPORTATION

Kudos for the NDP government for hiring high powered legal advice to defend British Columbia’s interests regarding its pristine natural mountains, lakes, rivers and overall fauna and flora, against the federally approved pipeline projects.

FICTITIOUS/MISLEADING 4.5% ANNUALIZED RATE OF EXPANSION IN CANADA FOR 2017

Annualized rates are just forecasts and now that the CDN $ is getting stronger, the export/import ratio will weaken, but worst of all, we keep relying on the export of crude Oil from the Tar Sands and other regions. In my personal view, the first page of Globe and Mail on Sept 1st/17 misleads the reader about a healthy annualized GDP of 4.5% for 2017, because they failed profoundly to say that according to Statistics Canada 25.46% of that forecasted growth is only coming, and expected to continue to come, from the extraction and export of our natural resources in the mining, quarrying, oil and gas industries. CBC News published (July 28/17) that there is a healthy spending done by businesses and consumers, but the truth is that Canadian debt per capita is the highest it has been in Canadian history, and that is alarming. Statistics Canada confirmed that the Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade has increased 8.0 and 6.2 % respectively in 2017, which again, places a higher debt burden on the average Canadian through their banking lines of credit and their personal credit cards. Let us face it, Canada is not having a long term healthy growth, because of over 43% of the 4.5% annualized GDP growth for 2017, comes from the trade industry and extraction industry alone. When is PM Trudeau’s government really going to support the average Canadian family by implementing and promoting government programs to boost industrial manufacturing of goods in hopes to increase our export of finished goods manufactured in Canada while reducing our imports of those manufactured goods from abroad?

SHOULD TOLERANCE GO BOTH WAYS?

We live in an age when everyone in North America and beyond should fully accept that we are all different and that we need to be tolerant and respectful of others. Tolerance and respect cannot exist, however, without social reciprocity. We cannot prosper in peace without this “rule of reciprocity.”
